The LSC course is open to all LSCs employed in state and state integrated schools. For your flexibility, there are 11 courses spread across February and May 2022.
The course "Tilting the Seesaw for Learning Support Coordinators" has finished

Specifically targeted for LSCs the course is aimed at providing a better understanding of autism. You will work collaboratively alongside other LSCs to develop skills and strategies to:

  • Support teacher development
  • Make change within classrooms and schools
  • Help teachers to use valuable visual strategies and social stories that will benefit all students
  • Tailor to the strengths, needs, and aspirations of tamariki

Our Programme

The Ministry of Education is funding this professional development. All our strategies are based on the Universal Design for Learning and so will benefit all students.

The programme is made up of an introductory session and six online modules. With a mixture of online meetings and Zoom sessions for discussion and feedback. The modules should only take a couple of hours per week - including reflection on the course content and how it can be applied at your school. You can do each module at your own pace during the week.

Please note this course will be starting on Monday the 2nd of May at 2.00pm and will be delivered every following Monday at 2.00pm until the last session on Monday the 13th of June.

Queen’s Birthday holiday falls within these sessions and will be moved to another time (after courses has started) with agreement of the affected participants

Testimonials

“All of the modules in the course have been extremely helpful-along with the resources. I feel that I can offer more support to teachers, TAs, students and whanau... And teach that ‘Inclusive Education’ should be embedded into every learning environment.”

“The knowledge and strategies shared to support learners with autism actually benefit everyone so it’s not a case of implementing things just for one child - but making learning accessible to all.”

"The presenter was excellent. She made us feel relaxed and happy to contribute our ideas or ask questions. She gave us practical examples. The assignments have us the opportunity to practice and share some wonderful ideas. A brilliant on-line practical course.”less
